How to make a visualizer for your song
A visualizer gives a song a video without filming anything: the cover moving, a loop, a texture that follows the track. Here are the kinds you can make, which one fits each release, the right sizes, and how to make one in minutes.
What a visualizer is (and why release one)
A visualizer is a video that plays for the whole song with an image in motion instead of filmed scenes. It is the cheapest way to give every song an official video: the single that already has a music video, the album tracks that never will, and the catalog songs that only exist as audio.
Why bother? Many people listen to music on YouTube, and when they search for a song they click the video from the artist’s channel. If the only thing there is the automatic upload from the distributor — the cover standing still — you lose the chance to show the artist’s look, to send people to the channel and to have something to share on release day.
The five kinds of visualizer
- Animated cover: the artwork floats, breathes or zooms in slowly, with grain, dust or soft lights over it. The most common one and the fastest to make.
- Spinning vinyl or CD: the cover becomes the label of a record that turns for the whole song. It reads «music» at a glance, even muted in a feed.
- Loop scene: a short clip — a road at night, the sea, a room — repeated without a visible jump. Filmed footage or a scene generated with AI.
- Audio-reactive: bars, waveforms or shapes that move with the sound. Very literal; it works for electronic music and less for songs where the voice carries everything.
- Lyric visualizer: any of the above with the words on screen, synced to the voice. It is a visualizer and a lyric video at the same time.
Which one for each song
| Song | Good choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Focus single with a music video | Lyric visualizer | A second official video for the same song, for people who want the words |
| Single without a music video | Animated cover or vinyl with lyrics | Gives it a proper video on release day |
| Album tracks | The same template for every track | The album looks like one piece and you make them all in an afternoon |
| Instrumental or electronic | Loop scene or audio-reactive | There are no words to carry the video |
| Catalog songs | Animated cover | A video for songs that never had one |

Sizes and formats
- YouTube: horizontal 16:9, 1920×1080, full length of the song.
- Reels, TikTok and Shorts: vertical 9:16, 1080×1920, 15–30 seconds with the hook. More sizes in video sizes for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- Spotify Canvas: vertical 9:16, a loop of 3 to 8 seconds. See what the Spotify Canvas is and its specs.
Tip: make the three formats from the same design. Same cover, same colors, same font: the release looks the same wherever someone finds it.
How to make one step by step
With the AI music video generator:
- Paste the Spotify or YouTube link of the song. TONTRIA takes the title, the artist and the official cover. For an unreleased song, upload the audio and the cover.
- Choose the movement of the cover: still, floating, spinning vinyl or CD, and set the speed.
- Add texture: dust or bokeh particles, grain and a very slow zoom of the background.
- Lyrics: TONTRIA uses the synced lyrics or transcribes the singing, and you can edit any line. Choose the font, the colors and how many lines show at a time.
- Export: 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, and a short loop for the Spotify Canvas.
Save the font and colors as the artist’s template, and the next song takes a few minutes. For a loop scene generated with AI (Seedance, Kling) or a full music video edited to the beat, use TONTRIA Motion Studio.
Publishing it
- Title: «Artist – Song (Visualizer)» or «(Official Visualizer)», so it doesn’t compete with the music video.
- Description: the links to listen, the credits and the lyrics if the video doesn’t show them.
- Release day: publish it at the same time as the song, pin a comment with the link to listen, and post the vertical versions that week. A plan for those days: release week content plan.
