How it works

How to make a lyric video with AI

A lyric video used to mean a designer, an animator and a few days of work. Here it is four steps.

  1. Start from a link or from your files

Paste a Spotify or YouTube link, or upload the audio and the cover art. Unreleased song? Upload the master and the artwork.

  2. Let TONTRIA find the cover and the lyrics

It brings the official cover and looks for synced lyrics. If they don’t exist, it transcribes the singing and syncs every line to the moment it is sung.

  3. Choose format and design

Horizontal for YouTube or vertical for Reels and TikTok. Animate the cover as a spinning vinyl, a CD or a floating cover, add particles and film grain, or put the lyrics over the music video.

  4. Review and export

Check the lines, paste the official lyrics if you want, adjust a timing, and export.

Formats

  • 16:9 horizontal — the classic lyric video for YouTube.
  • 9:16 vertical — lyric snippets for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
  • Cover or music video — animated artwork, or lyrics over the official video.

Free lyric video maker: what each plan exports

Every plan includes Video Lyrics. 1 credit = 1 minute of audio processed, so a three-and-a-half-minute song uses about 4 credits.

Lyrics over the music video, for Reels and TikTok

The same song as a vertical lyric video: the lyrics were transcribed from the singing and synced line by line, then placed over the official music video.

Design

Lyric video designs that look like a release, not a template

Vinyl, CD or floating cover

The cover art becomes a spinning vinyl label, a printed CD or a cover that gently floats over a blurred background.

Particles and grain

Add dust or bokeh particles and film grain for texture. Subtle by default, adjustable when you want more.

Synced lines

Each line appears when it is sung. Choose fonts from a library of 220+ and keep the style consistent with the artist’s brand.

Over the music video

Already have a video? Put the synced lyrics on top of it for a lyric version of the official clip.

Detects the language

Spanish, English, Portuguese and many more — the language of the song is detected automatically.

From Spotify or YouTube

Start from the link you already have. No need to download files or look for the artwork in high resolution.

Why release a lyric video at all?

For many listeners YouTube is where they look up a song, and when there is no official music video a lyric video is often the first thing they find. It gives the song a home on the platform, helps people learn the words and gives fans something to share on release day. Vertical lyric snippets do the same on Reels and TikTok, where a clear line of text over the song invites people to sing along or use the sound.

Use cases for artists

  • Publish a lyric video on release day while the music video is still in production.
  • Post 15–30 second vertical lyric snippets of the hook during release week.
  • Give singles that never had a visual their own video on YouTube.

Use cases for labels

  • Produce lyric videos for an entire album or EP in one afternoon.
  • Bring catalog songs to YouTube with a consistent look across the roster.
  • Create lyric versions of existing music videos.

Lyric videos pair well with the rest of the campaign: generate your release assets and Spotify Canvas from the same link, and cut AI clips from the performance. For a full walkthrough, read how to make a lyric video with AI from a Spotify link.

Lyric videos: frequently asked questions

Is this lyric video maker free?

Yes, you can start for free: the free plan gives you 30 credits once, with no card needed — enough for about seven lyric videos of three and a half minutes, exported up to 720p with a TONTRIA watermark. Creator (USD 10 a month) removes the watermark and exports in 1080p; Pro and Label export up to 4K at 60 fps. See the pricing page.

Can I upload the lyric video to YouTube?

Yes. Export it horizontal (16:9) and upload it to your channel like any other video; the vertical version works for Shorts, Reels and TikTok. Use it for songs you own or have permission to use: the lyrics are part of the composition, so someone else’s song needs the rights holders’ approval. If your distributor registers your music in Content ID, add your own channel to its allowlist so your upload is not claimed.

Can I make a lyric video from a Spotify link?

Yes. Paste the Spotify link of the song and TONTRIA takes the title, artist and official cover. If synced lyrics exist, it uses them; if not, it transcribes the singing and syncs each line to the audio. You can also start from a YouTube link or upload the audio and cover yourself.

Can I make a lyric video from an MP3 or an unreleased song?

Yes. You don't need a Spotify or YouTube link: upload the audio (MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC or OGG) and the cover, or just type the title and artist and TONTRIA looks for the artwork. It transcribes the singing and syncs each line, or you can paste the lyrics yourself. Handy for a single that is not out yet, so the lyric video is ready on release day.

Do I need to type the lyrics?

No. TONTRIA looks for the lyrics automatically. If it cannot find them, it transcribes the vocals and builds the synced lyrics for you. You can paste the official lyrics at any moment and fix any line or timing before exporting.

Can I make vertical lyric videos for Reels and TikTok?

Yes. Every lyric video can be exported horizontal (16:9) for YouTube or vertical (9:16) for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.

Can I make a lyric video on my phone?

Yes. TONTRIA Clips works in your phone's browser, with nothing to install: paste the song's Spotify or YouTube link, pick the look and download the finished video, vertical for Reels, TikTok and Shorts or horizontal for YouTube. You don't need to type the lyrics or sync them line by line by hand.

How do I make a video with moving lyrics for TikTok?

Make a lyric video and pick how the words come in: kinetic (words that hit on the beat), word by word, whole line, karaoke (the line fills in as it is sung) or typewriter (letter by letter). Each line shows up when it is sung, because the lyrics are synced to the vocals. Then export it vertical (9:16) for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

Is there a free lyric video maker without a watermark?

On the free plan (30 credits once, no card) you can make lyric videos, but they export in 720p with a small TONTRIA watermark. Any paid plan removes it: Creator (USD 10 a month) exports in 1080p and Pro (USD 20 a month) in 4K. See the pricing page.

Can the lyrics go over the music video instead of the cover?

Yes. Besides the cover-based designs (vinyl, CD, floating cover with particles and grain), you can place the synced lyrics over the music video.

How many credits does a lyric video use?

One credit is one minute of audio processed, so a three-and-a-half-minute song uses about four credits. Changing the design and exporting again is free.

Do I need a background or a template for a lyric video?

No. You don't have to find a background or download a template: TONTRIA builds it from the song's official cover, as a spinning vinyl, a printed CD or a cover floating over a blurred version of the artwork, with optional dust or bokeh particles and film grain. If you already have a music video, use it as the background and put the synced lyrics on top. Pick the font from a library of 220+ to keep the artist's style.

Is there a lyric video maker that doesn't use AI-generated images?

Yes. TONTRIA's lyric video maker doesn't invent images: the background is always the song's official cover (still, floating, spinning vinyl or CD over a blurred version of the artwork) or your own music video. AI is only used for the words: it finds the synced lyrics or transcribes the singing and times each line. You can paste the official lyrics and fix any line or timing by hand before exporting, so the text is exactly what the artist wrote. Step by step in how to make a lyric video from a Spotify link.

Can I download the synced lyrics as an SRT or TXT file?

Yes. From the lyric editor you can download the lyrics as they look after your edits: SRT with the timing of each line, or TXT with one line per row. Downloading them uses no credits. For captions on a video that already exists, use the auto subtitle generator.

Does this put my synced lyrics on Spotify?

No. TONTRIA Clips makes the video; it doesn’t publish lyrics to streaming services. The lyrics Spotify shows come from Musixmatch (except in Japan). To get yours there, verify as an artist or team on Musixmatch, link your Spotify for Artists account, type the lyrics as they are sung and sync them line by line. Musixmatch reviews them before they go live, so send them before the release date.

Does it work with songs in other languages?

Yes. TONTRIA detects the language of the song automatically — Spanish, English, Portuguese and many more.
